The following are the expectations of members in the EBGL:

Cost Expectations

As with any gaming organization, the Edmonton Board Gaming League comes with a few expenses that are shared by all members:

Season Registration Fee. At the beginning of each League season (or when a new member joins the league), all members are required to pay a fee (currently $10) that goes directly into the League's Prize Pool. At the end of the season, all of our awards and prizes are purchased from the total funds accumulated from both the Prize Pool, donations from Organizers, and any kickbacks and donations from our sponsors.

Games. Members will take turns buying a copy of the "game of focus" only if insufficient copies are owned by members of the league. We always ask if any members are interested in buying the game before asking the next member on the game purchase rotation to buy it. Because of this, members may only need to buy a game once every couple years but should still expect to buy at least 1 game per year. Games purchased by members are theirs to own, but should be left with the League organizers until that game is no longer "in focus". In 2025, we expect the average cost of our focus games will be approximately $90 CAD.

[Optional] Special Events. EBGL Special Events, whether they be EBGL hosted or sponsored, usually fall on weekend days (Sat/Sun) and usually require a fee to enter. We call these "Pay To Enter" (PTE) events and the cost to enter these events is typically $20. Member attendance is optional at these events; however, it is important to note that attendance at special events can earn you valuable league points, special league powers (such as selecting a game of focus), achievements, and possibly winning your money back or more in prizes.

Member Expectations

Attendance. At minimum, members should try to attend at least one in every 3 scheduled events or 8 total events in a season, whichever is less to maintain an "active" membership. Members who do not maintain their active member status in the current season will need to "re-apply" for their seat in the roster at the next Season Registration Event on a first-come, first-serve basis. Of course, there are always extenuating circumstances, such as sickness, school/work, travel, or other personal reasons that we will consider before changing a member's status so please let us know if you plan to be absent for a while.

Communications & Photos. By accepting membership terms to the Edmonton Board Gaming League (as part of step 3 of the application process), members agree to accept and receive electronic communications (email) from the League and/or League Organizers regarding League events, upcoming game purchase duties, and general League information. Members also agree to having photos and videos of them taken by other members, organizers, and sponsors at League events and posted on the League website (http://www.ebgl.org), Facebook, and Instagram.
